Success Story: How we Saved a Dental Implant

In this example, the implant under the abutment and crown started to lose bone seven years after its placement and restoration. The implant showed extensive bone loss for approximately one-third of its length. Here is how we salvaged the implant.

sample
  • Fig. 1: The abutment and crown were removed and stored for future reinsertion.
  • Fig. 2: The implant was detoxified (all bacteria and toxins removed); bone graft material was combined with a growth factor, and the implant was “buried” under a protective filter between the gum tissue and oral environment.
  • Fig. 3: X-ray taken after 4 months showing new bone surrounding and on top of the implant
  • Fig. 4: After five months, the implant was exposed, and the abutment and crown were          reseated. This approach saved the implant, abutment, and crown.
