Dental ‘Tooth Colored’ Fillings Washington DC
Our Washington DC Prosthodontists & Cosmetic Dentists Replace Amalgam Restorations
In most practices, composite fillings have replaced amalgam restorations. They are bonded to the tooth, have good strength, and are much more cosmetic. They are similar in look to composite inlays, but are not as strong or durable.
Procedure for Dental (Composite) Fillings
The tooth is prepared by lightly etching the surface and applying a bonding liquid. Once the liquid sets, a plastic resin is applied and sculpted into the desired shape by Dr. Marlin or Dr. Talmazov. Once set, the resin is trimmed, smoothed, and polished to a natural appearance.
Considerations for Fillings
The bonding procedure can often be completed in a single office visit and can significantly improve the appearance of a tooth. However, since the plastic resin used is not as strong as your natural tooth enamel, it is more likely to stain, chip, or break than natural teeth.
